Professional Experience, Achievements, and Goals
Mr. Tom Hawkins, a Galesburg-area native, is currently beginning his fifth year as Principal at Churchill Junior High School. Mr. Hawkins earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While attending UIUC, Mr. Hawkins was a member of both FarmHouse Fraternity and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Football Team (1989-1991). More recently, Mr. Hawkins earned his Master of Science in educational administration from Western Illinois University, which led him to his current position.

Mr. Hawkins has devoted his career to helping middle school students in Galesburg. He taught Physical Education for three years at Lombard Middle School and for 5 years at Churchill Junior High School. Mr. Hawkins then became Dean of Students at Lombard Middle School, a position he held for 2 years before becoming Lombard’s Assistant Principal. Firm in his believe that individuals are never too old to learn, he is currently working towards a superintendent's endorsement. Mr. Hawkins is constantly learning in order to better himself in whatever he does professionally.

Inspired by former teachers and administrators, Mr. Hawkins promotes the idea that we constantly strive to create partnerships with students and parents, with the goal of making Churchill Junior High School a safe learning environment for students to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Mr. Hawkins’ most memorable moments are seeing first-hand the positive impact he makes on the lives of students, especially students who face difficult challenges. Professional educators truly have the power to make a difference in their students’ lives, and that power is both a great honor and a great responsibility.

Personal Information
Mr. Hawkins and his wife, Delinda, have been married for 21 years. He enjoys gardening, landscaping, and spending time with his sons, Clark, a freshman at Purdue University, and Reid, a sophomore at GHS. Tom believes that his most important roles are being a husband to his wife and "Dad" to his sons.

Mr. Hawkins also believes in volunteer service. There are few jobs that make a person "too busy to volunteer." He believes that everyone can find one area where they can give their time to make this world a better place.
