An on-campus food pantry has been added on the first floor of Galesburg Junior Senior High School, thanks to the tireless efforts of Sara Gray, ROE #33 21st Century Program’s Streaks After Hours Coordinator.
Sara hosted a “Pack the Pantry” event at the final home football game at GJSHS, collecting valuable additions to the pantry. This pantry will be stocked monthly by the Riverbend Food Bank, as well as through community donations. The pantry is available to any District #205 families, regardless of income level.
The addition of this pantry would not have been possible without the collaboration of District #205 and ROE #33, as well as through a generous donation from the Galesburg Public Schools Foundation. According to Mrs. Gray, “Helping students overcome barriers to education has always been a passion of mine. Food insecurity is a major barrier for many students not just in Galesburg, but nationwide. My goal of our pantry is to help relieve some of that stress, by being able to put food directly into the hands of the students and families we serve in District #205.”
